Bearskin Airline of Thunder Bay and Sioux Lookout received a Hope Air national charity award for helping to arrange free medical flights for those in need in rural areas. Bearskin Airlines President Harvey Friesen accepted the award Nov. 8, 2010, in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Andrea Cremer, a native of Ashland, Wisconsin, and a graduate of Northland College there, made the New York Times National Bestseller List with her book, Nightshade. Her book traces the life of Calla, the loyal leader of a wolf pack in Colorado.
Houghton, Michigan, received the 2010 “Breaking the Mold Award” from the Michigan Construction Quality Partnership and the “Making a Difference Gold Award” from the National Partnership for Highway Quality. Both awards are for the 2009 Downtown Reconstruction and Streetscape Project.
Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center of Duluth received a 2010/2011 Consumer Choice Award from National Research Corporation, based on patients’ perceptions of quality and image in the community.
