These hand-knit toques are made by Jennifer Evans, co-owner of Northwest Sled Dogs, so she knows warm when she needs it. Every one of these special hats is numbered (she’s passed 3,050) and made from Alafos Lopi wool from Iceland. The earflaps are lined with fur from recycled coats. The warm hats reminiscent of Voyageur headgear can be found at Take A Hike and Chaltrek Geological Supplies in Thunder Bay or directly from Jennifer at www.sleddogThunderBay.com.

SmartWool Socks
This is not a regionally made product, but so many local outfitters sing its praises we had to include it. SmartWool (socks especially) come in styles for winter or summer. The sock pictured is the SmartWool Women’s Ski Racing Light, made of SmartWool (modified fibers starting from merino sheep in New Zealand) with strategic cushioning in the shin and heel, a non-cushioned sole and a flat-knit toe seam. Found in most regional outfitter stores.
- Suggested retail: $18.95
