Pieta Brown is bringing her poetic songwriting, striking voice and distinctive style to the CHUM Rhubarb Festival June 23 at 11th Avenue East and London Road in Duluth. Her music carries traces of her current home in Iowa and her childhood in Alabama. Her sound blends alt-country, folk, blues and indie-rock, and she has fans around the world. She was recently featured on Amos Lee’s hit album "Mission Bell" along with Lucinda Williams and Willie Nelson, and she’s toured with such diverse talents as Mark Knopfler, Ani Difranco, Calexico and John Prine. Also on stage during the 8th annual Rhubarb Festival will be the energetic fiddle music and vocal harmonies of Duluth’s Four Mile Portage, and Wind Chill Brass. The festival features rhubarb pies and other treats as well as activities for kids. It runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Live performances begin at 10 a.m. under the big tent on London Road. The annual CHUM Rhubarb Festival is the biggest fundraiser of the year for CHUM (Church United in Ministry) programs, which include food shelves, emergency shelters, the CHUM Center, employment and housing advocacy.
