St. Louis County Heritage and Arts Center (Depot) 506 West Michigan Street, Duluth, Minnesota 55802
A closing reception for the Duluth Art Institute's exhibition "Niiyo-wiij-anishinaabeg (Four Friends)" will be Tuesday, July 24, from 6-8 pm., in the Great Hall of the Duluth Depot (St. Louis County Heritage and Arts Center) with a program including a ceremony, feast, speakers and presentation of gifts. Niiyo-wiij-anishinaabeg is from Anishinaabemowin and is closely translated into “Four Friends” – three being the artists Carl Gawboy, George Morrison and Joe Geshick, and the art viewer is meant to be the fourth. For the program, Virgil Sohm, spiritual leader, Bois Forte Band, will lead the event blessing. Carl Gawboy, Briand Morrison and Leeann Geshick will share a few words. Linda Legarde Grover of the Bois Forte Band, and an award-winning author, also will speak. Artist Sarah Aagaton Howes of the Fond du Lac Band will present her blankets as gifts to Carl Gawboy and the families of George Morrison and Joe Geshick. www.duluthartinstitute.org
