Gold Star Flags Presentation for Families in Duluth
to
St. Louis County Heritage and Arts Center (Depot) 506 West Michigan Street, Duluth, Minnesota 55802
Veterans’ Memorial Hall, a program of the St. Louis County Historical Society, has partnered with Honor and Remember Minnesota to help present eight Gold Star flags to Northland families who have had a family member killed in action in recent wars. The presentation will be Sunday, February 12, at 1 p.m. at the St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Center (the Depot). The event is free and open to the public. The Gold Star flag was created by a father of a fallen service member in Iraq. After visiting other families in the same situation, he realized that surviving families didn’t have a universal symbol to unite them and to make certain that their sacrifice won’t be forgotten. The flag has already been adopted by nine states and is currently being considered by the state of Minnesota. Sunday’s program will consist of two speakers from Honor and Remember Minnesota: one will describe the history of the flag, the other will describe the symbolic meaning behind elements of the flag. Then the flags will be presented to the eight families who lost a family member in service to their country. For more information, call Dan Hartman at 218-733-7500, or Mike LaBelle at 612-730-8842.
