The 2012 Duluth Dylan Fest runs May 18 to May 26 at various venues. It kicks off on Friday, May 18, with Desire in Duluth at Weber Music Hall at the University of Minnesota Duluth. The event benefits the Armory Arts & Music Center and features famed violinist Scarlet Rivera and special guest Gene Lafond & the Wild Unknown. Rivera and Lafond are contemporaries of Duluth native Bob Dylan and accompanied him on the Rolling Thunder Revue Tour of 1975 and 1976. The up and coming Communist Daughter will open the show. Other events include Dylan Trivia at Carmody's May 20; the Dylan Effect at Tycoons, a discussion of Bob's influence on music and culture; Dylan's 71st birthday party at Red Star & The Brewhouse May 22; Dylan Film Fest at Zinema 2 May 23; and the Blood on the Tracks Express on the North Shore Scenic Railroad to Two Harbors and starting at Fitger's on May 24.
