to
Lake Superior Marine Museum & Maritime Visitor Center 600 South Lake Avenue, Duluth, Minnesota 55802
The 25th annual Gales of November is Friday, November 2, and Saturday, November 3, at various locations in Canal Park. What began 25 years ago as a small gathering of divers sharing shipwreck pictures has grown into a two-day celebration of Great Lakes maritime history, shipping and diving. Featured are exhibits, illustrated presentations on history and underwater archaeology and a silent auction of maritime and maritime-related items. The opening luncheon speaker is Bob Krumenaker, superintendent of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore; and the keynote luncheon speaker Saturday will be Dr. James Delgado, director of Maritime Heritage for the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, in the office of National Marine Sanctuaries. On Friday night, Lake Superior Magazine hosts the opening gala reception, from 6-8 p.m., at the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center. The full day of speakers and presenations on Saturday is at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center. The event also includes a drawing of the “Cruise of a Lifetime” raffle. Two winners and their guests will set sail aboard a 1,000-foot ore carrier in summer 2013. Gales is the main fundraising benefit for the Lake Superior Marine Museum Association (LSMMA).
