During the 2013 Duluth Polar Bear Plunge, presented by Minnesota law enforcement to benefit Special Olympics Minnesota, plungers raise funds by jumping into Minnesota’s frigid waters. The funds raised benefit more than 7,100 Special Olympics Minnesota athletes.
The Duluth Plunge will be held at Canal Park, Canal Park Drive in Duluth. The Plunge begins at 3 p.m. on February 16, 2013. Check-in will be at Grandma’s Sports Garden, 425 S. Lake Avenue. In 2012, approximately 1,000 brave souls took the Plunge into Lake Superior and raised more than $169,000 in support of Special Olympics Minnesota.
Register online at www.plungemn.org. Participants may Plunge as individuals or in teams. They are also encouraged to wear unique and outrageous costumes on Plunge day. Second, ask everyone from family to friends to your community to pledge to your Plunge. Each participant must raise a minimum of $75. The average Plunger raised $198 in 2012. Third, check-in on Plunge day and bring your pledges with you. Shoes, towel and fun are also required.
